10/27/2007 - Boston, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Joffrey Lupul scored the decisive goal and Martin Biron made 38 saves as the Philadelphia Flyers edged the Boston Bruins, 2-1, at TD Banknorth Garden.
The game was marred by an injury to Boston forward Patrice Bergeron, who was taken off the ice on a stretcher late in the first period after being driven head-first into the glass by Flyers defenseman Randy Jones.
"After initially losing consciousness on the ice, Patrice has regained consciousness and has been taken to Massachusetts General Hospital, where he is undergoing a series of tests," said team physician Dr. Bertram Zarins.
"Patrice has sustained a concussion and a broken nose," Zarins added. "The initial x-rays and CT scan have not shown any other serious injury to his head or neck, and he has full feeling and motion in all of his extremities. We will continue to monitor Patrice and await the final results of his medical study."
Mike Richards also had a goal and assisted on Lupul's tally as the Flyers snapped a two-game skid during a season-high eight-game road trip. They lost 4-3 at Florida on Wednesday before enduring a 5-2 setback in Tampa Bay the following night.
Marco Sturm had the lone goal and Tim Thomas stopped 26-of-28 shots for Boston, which was handed its first home loss of the season and has now dropped two of its last three games following a four-game win streak.
The game looked to be a fight-filled affair from the opening faceoff, as Philadelphia's Riley Cote and Boston's Shawn Thorton dropped the gloves nine minutes in. Then, just 15 seconds later, the Flyers' Ben Eager went toe-to-toe with the Bruins' Milan Lucic, opening a cut under his left eye.
Things quickly turned ugly, however, as Bergeron's injury delayed the game nearly 15 minutes.
The 22-year-old Bergeron was knocked unconscious from the hit by Jones and lay prone on his back. He was eventually immobilized and tediously loaded onto a stretcher, but did not regain consciousness at any point before being wheeled off the ice and loaded into a waiting ambulance.
Jones was given a five-minute major for boarding as well as a game misconduct for the hit, which marks the third time a Philadelphia player has been involved in a violent on-ice act this season.
"Words really can't express the way that I feel right now," Jones said. "I am very apologetic for the hit and what I did. It was not intentional. It is something that I have never done before and it is not part of my character. I am extremely sorry. I hope he does ok and everything works out for him. I wish him nothing but the best in his recovery."
Things calmed down in the second period, as Sturm put the Bruins on the board with a power-play goal. Zdeno Chara rifled a shot from the high slot that knocked down by Biron, but Sturm knocked the rebound past the sprawling netminder at 7:51.
Richards pulled the Flyers even with a short-handed, breakaway tally less than two minutes later, however, as he faked a high shot, went to the backhand and slipped the puck between the five-hole of Thomas at 9:36.
Philadelphia's power play then came to life with 7:00 left in the stanza, as Richards' shot went high off the glass and was directed back in front for Lupul, whose backhander beat Thomas to give the Flyers a 2-1 edge.
Boston's Phil Kessel was unsuccessful on a penalty shot with just under five minutes remaining, and the team skated to the second intermission still down by a goal.
The Bruins also made a valiant effort to tie things up in the third period but were stymied by Biron, who turned aside 16 shots in the final 20 minutes.
Game Notes
The start of the game was originally slated for 7:00pm (et), but was rescheduled so fans could watch the Boston Red Sox battle the Colorado Rockies in Game Three of the World Series...Flyers forward Simon Gagne missed his second straight game with dizziness and concussion-like symptoms...Kessel's penalty shot was the first taken by the Bruins this season...Richards' short- handed goal was the ninth of his career...The Flyers have won four of their last five trips to Boston.

On his way to his person
Let’s take a look at the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds and the betting line and figure out where they’ve been and where they are going to go.
MySportsbook.com put up the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds late on Sunday night with the Pittsburgh Steelers favored by 6.5 points and a total betting line at 47.5 points.
Since then, however, the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds have seen a good deal of movement and you’ll want to be on top of where they are likely to move to make sure you get the best line value for the big game.
Since opening, the Super Bowl 2009 betting lines went to Steelers -7 in the span of roughly 3 hours but were quickly bought back down just minutes later to 6.5 again.
After that is took about 5-6 more hours before the betting line went back to -7 where it has sat for a while now and is likely to remain. The opening betting total of 47.5 was bet down right after the line became available and went to 47 within minutes.
Roughly a day later it has been bet even further down to the 46.5 tally it currently is set at.
Roughly 60% of gamblers seem to be on the Cardinals here so the point spread will be bet down and a 7.5 would not last very long at all with many taking the early 6.5 in hopes of finding a potential middle in the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds.
If you like Arizona and see a 7.5, I’d take it as soon as possible because it’s unlikely to last. For Pittsburgh backers, the -7 might be the best you’ll be able to find but a 6.5 is definitely possible close to game time.
Regarding the Super Bowl 2009 betting odds for the total, most tracked gamblers are already on the over and with those who took the under 47.5 already securing a middle on the over 46.5, the only way I see it moving is back up to 47 so if you like the over, I’d recommend betting now.
