11/01/2007 - New York, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Henrik Lundqvist stopped all 31 shots he faced as the New York Rangers blanked the Washington Capitals, 2-0, at Madison Square Garden.
Michal Rozsival and Chris Drury both lit the lamp while Marc Staal picked up his first NHL point with an assist for the Rangers, who posted back-to-back wins for the first time this season.
Drury added a helper in the win and finished with eight shots on goal.
Olaf Kolzig made 26 saves for Washington, which has dropped seven of nine.
New York assumed a 1-0 lead 6:45 into the second period. After extended time in the Washington zone, Staal took control of the puck just inside the blue line and fired it on net. Drury got a piece of it in front and redirected the disc past Kolzig.
The Capitals had plenty of opportunities to tie the contest, but Lundqvist turned away each of the 10 shots he faced in the stanza to keep the road team off the scoreboard.
The Rangers gained a 5-on-3 advantage midway through the third, and cashed in to take a 2-0 lead. With the offense set up, Scott Gomez sent a cross-ice pass from the right boards that hit traffic in front but made it through to Rozsival, who punched it into the net.
Washington earned a power play of its own later in the frame but Lundqvist continued to stymie the Capitals attack, and held on for the shutout.
Game Notes
This was Lundqvist's third shutout of the season...New York hadn't notched consecutive victories since posting a five-game winning streak from March 17-25 of last season...The Rangers are 3-1 so far on a season-high six-game homestand...Capitals left wing Alexander Semin (ankle) did not play.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.

Brandon Roy Favorite to Win 2007 NBA Rookie of the Year
Portland TrailBlazer’s guard, Brandon Roy, is MySportsbook.com’s overwhelming favorite to win the NBA Rookie of the Year odds.
Despite missing 20 games due to an injury earlier this season, Roy has definitely put up the best numbers of his 1st year peers. In 32 games, Roy is averaging 15.3 PPG, 4.2 boards and 3.5 assists in over 33 minutes of play per game. While most rookies breakdown as the season progresses (see Morrison), Roy is only getting stronger as his playing time and scoring average has increased each month.
With 30 or so games left in the regular season, Roy isn’t a lock for the award by any means. Other rookies are putting together some pretty impressive campaigns and a few could give Roy a run for the award with increased playing time. Heading the list is first pick, Andrea Bargnani of the Toronto Raptors. Even though he has started only two games all season, Bargnani is averaging 10.3 PPPG while shooting 35% from deep.
Randy Foye of the Minnesota Timberwolves could be set to give Roy the best competition NBA Rookie of the Year betting lines. With the benching of Mike James, Foye looks like he could be the starter in the T-Wolves backcourt for the rest of the season. So far, Foye has averaged 9 PPG and 2.4 assists in just under 21 minutes per game. With his new role of starter, Foye’s numbers will definitely increase. In his first game as the new starting guard this past Sunday, Foye had 10 points; five rebounds and 8 assists. More importantly, he logged 34 minutes of playing time; his third highest run of the season.
Adam Morrison, of the Charlotte Bobcats, was the favorite early on in the season after averaging 15+ PPG through the first month of the season. Ever since his torrid start, Morrison’s point production has declined each month. This really isn’t surprising, considering at 6’8” he only weighs 205 lbs. Obviously he will need to hit the weights big time during the off-season in order to keep from breaking down in the future.
