Kessel nets SO winner as Leafs nip Sens

03/06/2010 - Ottawa, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Phil Kessel got the game-winner in the shootout to help the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 2-1 win over the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place.

After Jonas Gustavsson stoned Alex Kovalev on the first shot, Kessel skated in and put the puck into the back of the net.

Gustavsson then stopped Jason Spezza before Nikolai Kulemin sealed the win with a goal.

Kessel scored the only goal in regulation for the Maple Leafs, who snapped a four-game losing streak. Gustavsson made 22 saves in the game.

Chris Neil scored while Pascal Leclaire stopped 30 shots for the Senators, who have dropped four of their last five games.

Ottawa got the only goal of the first period as Neil's backhand on the power play at 17:03 got past Gustavsson for his eighth goal of the season.

Kessel evened things up in the second period as his snap shot got into the back of the net at the 6:50 mark for his 22nd goal of the season.

Game Notes

Toronto plays in Philly on Sunday...Ottawa hits the road for a three-game swing in western Canada and plays in Edmonton on Tuesday...Toronto has won three of the five games against the Senators this season.
